Dr. Michael Maristuen

About
Dr. Maristuen DC, CCSP, LAc is co-owner of Spine & Sports Chiropractic. He is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic who graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2003. He attended and played hockey at St. Cloud State University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Bio-Medical Science. Dr. Maristuen has obtained the postgraduate designation of Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (ACBSP). He is a licensed acupuncturist, certified in instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization by the Graston Technique institute, utilizes Kinesio Taping technique, trained in Accelerated Recovery Performance (ARP) Therapy and a trained applied kinesiologist.

Philosophy
Dr. Maristuen uses a series of specific muscle tests called Applied Kinesiology (AK), when examining patients. Applied Kinesiology is a form of diagnosis using muscle testing as a primary feedback mechanism to examine how a patient's body is functioning. When using Applied Kinesiology, he has a distinct advantage over other practitioners as he has specific diagnostic tools to determine the best therapy (Graston Technique/ ARP Therapy) for the injury. With many injuries, a negative compensation pattern occurs within the muscular system and AK testing allows him to uncover and reverse this negative compensation pattern. Consequently, restoring musculoskeletal function yields a more complete reduction of pain and a rapid return to competition. Chronic or recurring injuries typically have a negative compensation patter along with muscular weakness. Of which, these patients are required to perform specific exercises geared towards building strength and restoring proper biomechanics in order to reverse the negative compensation pattern that has developed over time.

Advanced Therapy
Accelerated Recovery Performance (ARP) therapy is used by more professional athletes than any other medical devise on the planet. Many of these athletes own an ARP and use it on a daily basis to speed up injury recovery, prevent injuries and maximize their athletic potential. ARP therapy is utilized on every patient in Dr. Maristuen's clinic. ARP dramatically speeds up the recovery of injury by electrically lengthening the musculature and dramatically decreasing inflammation. There are many patients that have gone through treatment with other physicians or physical therapists and are still experiencing pain. Why are they still experiencing pain? The ARP is a diagnostic tool that is used to locate the origin of the problem. Because where you feel the pain may not be where the injury is located. So, treating where you are feeling the pain with normal muscle stimulation or ultrasound will yield only temporary pain relief at best.

Dr. Maristuen specializes in treating extremity pain (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee and ankle pain), sports injuries and car accident victims. Also, he works with many orthopedic medical doctors providing post-operative rehabilitation. He has developed a truly unique protocol for treating all injuries using AK testing, Graston Technique and ARP therapy.
